Our Service: How We Do It
Testing for Macular Degeneration
Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT) and GDx: these advanced devices allow a detailed, interactive examination of the optic nerve and macular inside of the eye and are vital to accurately tracking the progression of ocular conditions such as macular degeneration.
Common Eye conditions and how we test for them
Six weeks is a long time in optometry and we pride ourselves on our pioneering use of the latest technology. It’s easier, quicker and more accurate – and also gives us more time to interpret and explain the results. These are some of the key pieces of equipment that we use:
Testing for Glaucoma
Non-Contact Automated Tonometer: a big name for a simple and painless way to measure the pressure of the fluid in your eye. Without even touching your eye, the tonometer can reveal whether or not you are at risk of glaucoma.
Testing for Astigmatism
Auto Keratometer: this looks rather like a little camera, but it’s really a quick and accurate way to measure the dimensions of your eye and to diagnose astigmatism.
Studying your Retina
Microscope and Digital Camera: this stunning development in optometry offers detailed images of your eye and optic nerve which allow us to assess eye health or vision problems and to track progressive changes. The images can even be e-mailed to a specialist for further review, or discussion.
Studying your Optic Nerve
Visual Field Analyser: this investigates optic nerve function, so it is important in monitoring glaucoma, migraines, vision problems after stroke or to diagnose tumours affecting the optical pathways.
